You have the right to kill in defense of others and in self-defense. You can't just shoot some person walking across your lawn. There has to be a definite threat.

If the prosecutor believe you acted in self defense, you will not be charged. If they don't, self defense is still a valid defense in court. Just being on your property does not justify lethal force. If the intruder tries to harm you, some level of force is justified. The intruder having a gun increases the level of force that is justified. My non-legal advice is "Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6." In other words, I'd rather be on trial for shooting someone than dead.

As long as you provide evidence that it you thought you or someone else was in danger then you are allowed to shoot and kill.
BTW that 47 times more likely thing has been proven false by the guy who proposed it.

You can use deadly force in self defense of yourself or your loved ones,,,,but if you see the intruder and wait for him to enter your home and then you kill them, then maybe you can be charged. If the intruder surprises you or you warn them you have a gun and they continue to enter then your ok, and of course during this warning time, you have already called the police. Its all about justification,,,,,,

When you own the gun your using (registered, license) you won't have any problems. However, if you have none of the above plus a police record that makes the Ku Klux Klan look like pansies your out of luck.

If it's truly in self dense then there is no problem but you'd have to be able to prove it. I'd like to know where "skeptic" is getting his statistics

in case you like your dogs its logical. I propose, if somebody tries to kill somebody or ingredient you like, its wide-spread for us to choose to guard it. in case you do unlike your dogs then you have long gone mad, until you have a deep love for it you do no longer even understand approximately.
