I LOVED the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. It's called the "most Hawaiian"... there are wonderful lawns near the pool for relaxing and reading; it's right on the beach; it's a short walk along the beach to a great outdoor shopping center; and the rooms are lovely, many with ocean views. The grounds are beautiful, with trees and plants.
The hotel provides free classes in the hula, in plant life, lei making, history, etc. to guests. We took the plant life tour around the grounds and learned so much!
I'd love to visit this hotel again. The nearby Sheraton was very stuffy in appearance, and certainly no one dared to take a lounge chair onto the lawn to read! The lawn looked like a golf course.
The Kaanapali Hotel is expensive, of course. There are "deals" and packages available. We had vouchers for breakfasts, and ate outside on the wonderful patio each morning.

I just got home yesterday from 3 days in Maui. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Lahaina. I absolutely love the beds there. They are the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Unfortunatly, starting next month the crew hotel for my friend's airline moves down the beach to another hotel so we won't be able to stay at the Hyatt on layovers anymore. The Hyatt offers wonderful grounds with asian art, shops, and gorgeous rooms. They also have their own snorkel excurison on the Kelie V which is wonderful! We went to Honolua Bay on Friday and got to snorkel with sea turtles. It was amazing!
The new hotel we'll be staying at is supposed to be really nice. It's on the same beach so I'm sure it will be.

The Hyatt and the Merriot are both very nice

Grand Wailea Resort - it is expensive, but well worth it.

well its a condo and its in Kehei..its called Kamaole Sands...its just so so nice
