My seven year old insists on speaking in 'Cat Language' and answers everything in it. He has worked out a system where different numbers and tones mean different phrases and words and insists on speaking it at all times....this has been going on for several months....

So like one meow is no, two meows is yes, two meows with the first drawn out is "I have to use the restroom, three with the second one drawn out is "I am hungry" etc. He's a very bright kid, I'm thinking this is just how he keeps his imagination active...

Hehe. He is just being creative. I remeber being the exact same way when i was younger, and i have 2 much younger sisters that acted this way too. He is looking for things to do to keep himself entertained and he likes the attention that he is getting when he does it. Its nothing to worry about at all...

If you really dont like it, just sit down with him and let him know that. Just ask him if he could maybe stop...but i dont recommend this. Just let him keep on goin like he does..Hes just being a regular seven year old. He will soon be tired of it and stop doin it

He's just being a kid, he'll soon grow out of it. Most kids want to be different and use thier imaginations. It isn't the end of the world. In a couple of years, puberty will kick in and things will be different again. Just be a good parent and if it continues to a point of annoyance, tell him to talk to you normally. Otherwise ignore him. He will get the picture. Wait it out.

it's a phase probably but try telling him he can't get what he wants unless he speaks english (Instead of cat) If you don't it may go on longer then you'd like for it to. Don't crush his creativity and tell him he can use cat language certan times of the day (Like when you're playing a game) It's hard but you can do it. Good luck!

This is a perfectly normal thing for kids to do. However, the fact that he is still doing it tells me that you are catering to his behavior. Try saying, "I'm sorry, but I don't understand cat language", and turn away from him. Ignore him for a while!
Entice him to talk in human language by denying him things when he talks in cat language.
"I'm sorry, cookies are not good for cats."
"I'm sorry, I don't want to hug a cat, I'd rather hug my little boy."
When he speaks in English, reward him with a smile, a hug, a cookie, etc...

This is probably just a phase, he's probably speaking in this "language" because he feels that if he just talks normal, he isn't getting enough attention and people aren't really listening to him, and he doesn't feel respected.

It should just fade, he'll eventually get over it. I've been around kids all my life, and behavior like that probably has something to do with him feeling like he doesn't get enough attention, and when he talks in this way, he knows that you're trying to listen attentively, and it makes him feel better.

Have you tried to correct him when he speaks "Cat language " ? Have you spoke with his teachers ? Is he doing this at school ? Maybe he is using this as a attention getter or maybe there is a underlying problem going on with your son.
You may want to consult with your son's Doctor he may have some additional suggestions for you.

yes that sounds normal
you should learn cat language and start speaking it also
back to him. see how that strikes him
does he do it at school?
if not then it is a game he is playing with you.
get inside and play the game.
trust me it's a stage. he won't speak cat language in hgih school when he is trying to date a girl. this too shall pass.
have fun with it.

This is normal for a little boy, they have great imaginations, I agree with most of these people. I would encourage him to not do it at school but since you know his system allow it at home, he will grow out of it sooner then you think. Best of luck and God Bless.

While he probably just has an active imagination, you might want to make sure that this isn't hurting his ability to communicate in English.

What does he do in school?
