Don't wait until summer. Start out by walking now. Do it when you get home from school. Just start by walking around your block or walk home from school, etc. When you feel comfortable with that, add in a few minutes of jogging. Slowly work your way up alternating jogging and walking until you can jog all the distance that you previously had to walk. Then you'll not only be losing weight, but you'll know that you'll be able to run for the soccer team.

Also try to start eating different foods. Cut back on sugars and soda. Drink more water. Eat whole grain foods, fruits, and vegetables. Don't completely give up your favourites, though...just eat them in smaller portions. And stick with things you like. If you know you like meats, then try to get most of your protein from that. If you know you like dairy, try to incorporate things like yoghurt and low-fat cheeses into your diet. Keep things like a granola bar in your purse or school bag so you always have a healthy snack for wherever you go.

Trust me you don't need to be skinny in order to run
Me and my friend joined soccer 3 years ago, and I used to be overweight (160 lbs 5-6) and she was skinny(105 5-4), but I ran faster and played better than she did.

My advice to you would be, start practicing FOR soccer, rather than focus on getting skinny. From May (before school ends) start by running/jogging a mile a day. When school gets out jog 2 miles a day. And before school starts raise it to 3 miles a day.
Or take a ball and run with it as well.

Also food is a big part of how well you play. During the summer you should give up pop, candy, chocolate and chips. Maybe eat a bit of ice cream, and you could still eat popscicles. And eat LOTS of fruit and veggies.

A healthy diet would be one that is low in sodium. As the FDA states, one should stay under 2,000mg a day (average American has about 8,000/day). When you have too much sodium in your body, it will retain water which will slow down your digestion.
I would recommend sticking with vegetables (no salt), fruits, and no salt starches (like brown rice-not white, corn, and plain potatoes-->all in small amounts, about size of palm of hand or smaller).
A starch and fruit in morning/ starch, fruit, veggie at lunch/ and starch, veggie at night. You can also include one to two protiens a week as long as they are lower sodium with little on them (would recommend just using lemon juice on it because lemon helps with digestion).
I hope this is of some help for you. I myself was and still are a little over weight. This diet helped me lose about 3-4 lbs a week and doctors all agreed it was one that was healthy.

i weigh 150 and im 5'4 and im a starter for the soccer, basketball teams. and i also run track. theres nothing wrong with being big. ut if your out of shape then during the summer just go for 15 minute runs, lift weights and eat good.
