X Digital Media?

I brought a X Digital Media (secure digital) 512MB for my niece...I got it for her compact digital/camcorder ….when I put the card in and try to take a picture…I get a …..“card protect” error anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this or what I am doing wrong….thanks you guys for any sincere replies

There's a little switch on the edge of the card that says "LOCK." Make sure it's in the up position.
