If I am writing to a pen pal I don't want to just say "My name is ______, I am _____ years old and ....." so forth.

I still need to provide that information, I just want to do it in a stale, boring way.

I only write emails when I have to, and I think I do pretty good job of doing that but this time I want to do letter writing ("snail mail)

It's seems like letter writing is a little harder. It seems hard to conversational without writing like that, I want to include the information but in a not so boring way.

Any advice? Or anything at all? Thank you.

I want an good, NOT boring intro to a letter. Has anyone written such a letter? How did you do it?

Yes it is boring. It kind of advertises, my name is (blank) and I have no originality at all! If you were writing a book and needed to introduce a character what would you write? Besides this pen pal doesn't need all the usual information right away, to get them to write back, leave them with questions.

About your name, try letting this person know why you were named that (if there is a reason) like from some random character from a tv show.
Your age try- I found your name and address (blank) and saw that you are (age) and so am I ...

Read a couple of your favorite books and figure out how they introduce the leading character. That should keep it interesting.

Or you could write it like you talk. You don't introduce your name, age, marital status, major, and hobbies upon shaking hands! Let those facts come up "in conversation", like you have a reason for telling them this.

It is only YOU that consider what you have been doing as boring, It will not seem boring to the person who is reading the information for the first time. Trust me! Get the info out first, and then begin the friendship, don't be too cutesy on the first letter or try to be so original that you come across as a dork or some sort of nutcase.

Actually preparing a "profile" and first letter to use on all pen-pals is the best way to go. Use the same format each time and perhaps customize a bit if you know something about them. This way the first letter can be copied and pasted from your file, then get down to fun later if they respond. Good luck.
