I have a bunch of tats, some on my arms and back. Well I just got a new one around my ankle and it seems like it's taking FOREVER to heal. My other ones didn't seem to take this long. I take care of it the same way I did all the rest. My other ones would be in that annoying itching stage right now but the one on my ankle is still a little sore and it's been 5 days. It's just barely starting to scab a little bit. Do you think it's just because of where it's at? A lot of people are telling me it's because the skin in that area of your ankle is thinner than most other places. Its also a fairly big tattoo. It's the biggest one I have it takes up my whole ankle and a little bit of my lower leg. Is everything normal or should I go to the tat shop and have them check it out???

the farther a tattoo is away from your heart the longer it takes to heal. your feet/ankles don't get the same circulation that your torso and arms get. both of my foot tattoos took much longer to heal. just keep taking care of it the way you are supposed to. it could take up to three weeks.

It's the location. The skin on your ankle is constantly flexing as you walk, which will lead to irritating the fresh tattoo. Socks don't help either. If it's possible, try to stay off your feet, and wear those 'footie' socks that won't cover the tattoo. These things will help, but it'll still take a little longer to heal.

Another trick is to elevate your foot when you can. Forcing the blood to flow there, as opposed to working with gravity, will help speed the healing time up a little.

The first time I had a tattoo done with largeish areas of colour I was really surprised by the length of time it took to heal in comparison to my smaller/less filled in ones. It was sore for much longer, the scabs took longer to come off, etc... basically, everything you just said!

This being your biggest tattoo yet, it sounds to me like it's normal for it to be taking longer to heal, so I would say don't worry about it.

Hope this helps!

I don't think you should worry unless it starts to ooze green drainage or becomes severely inflamed. Tattoos on different parts do take longer to heal than others, so it could be just the area the tattoo is in that takes longer to heal, and it could be also from a change in your diet/exercise/smoking or drinking habits causing it to take longer to heal. When my husband started drinking a lot of caffeine and not exercising, it started taking him a lot longer to heal and our artist told him it was his change in diet and exercise that most likely extended his healing time.

My ankle tatts took almost 2 weeks to heal up.
The one on my back is almost healed up after 1 week now-- so I am marveling at it the other way, lol.
The circulation at your ankle is not as strong as on your torso, so any kind of sore or tatt will take longer to heal on your ankle or foot.

That area will take longer to heal because the skin is always stretching and moving. As long as its not infected do not worry about it and make sure that you take proper care of it.
