Who are you tipping? If you are leaving a tip for housekeeping, it depends on the type of hotel. This tip will go directly to the housekeeper who cleans your room, who works very hard to do so. I would say that for a $100/night room, anything above $2 would be nice- realize that many people in America don't tip the housekeeper at all. It's not that you are tipping her/him for the cleaning they WILL do, but particularly the cleaning they already DID do, which you noticed when you entered the room. Also, like any human being, housekeepers do appreciate bills more than coins. Obviously coins are better than nothing, but I feel it is ridiculous when people leave a handful of pennies and nickels and feel as if that's a tip.

Chambermaid: $5 a night minimum. More if long stays (over a week) Consider $7 to $9 a night.
Room Service Waiter: 15% of bill
Bellhop: $10 for bringing you to your room with luggage; $5 dollars for opening and showing the room
Lobby Attendant: None for opening door or calling taxi from stand; $1 dollar or more for help with luggage or finding a taxi on the street
Desk Clerk: None unless special service is given during long stay then, $5
Concierge: $5-$10 Average. More for special services or favors

I tip between $3-5 a day. It depends on whether or not housekeeping has gone out of thier way to take care of my requests, like extra pillows, extra towels, etc. If someone has been cleaning up after me for a week while I've been on vacation a $20 bill or so at the end of my stay is like an extra little "thank you."

To all the people who don't tip, red "Nickel and Dimed." Yes, I know housekeeping is paid minimum wage, but thier job is pretty yucky--would YOU want to clean pubic hair out of shower drains every day?

I only tip the maid if they have gone out of their way to do something extra. Then only a couple dollars. The last time I tipped was in Jamaica because the maid created different little designs out of the towels every day, as well as laid fresh flowers on my pillow.

depends on hotel, if theres bus boys..u should tip them. the maids really deserve tips (if they do a good job) i was a chamber maid, if you left a tip during your stay i made sure i did the room really nice, if you left a tip when you left the hotel, it left a smile on my face all day, it made me feel like someone noticed my work.

If you were happy with the maid service, I'd say a dollar for each night you spent, for each person who stayed in the room (for example, if two of you shared the room for 5 nights, then $10). Adjust it up or down based on your satisfaction with the service.

That depends on several factors such as quality of service, type of restaurant (mid level/upscale etc.). Usually you should pay at least 10-15% of the bill.
