What happens to the skin, hair, organs, and the bones of the body when it is cremated? I think they need the process of how the body gets ready for the cremation or what the body is doing when it's set on fire?

Actually, everything is not reduced to simply ashes, the larger bone fragments such as the hip bones, knees and shoulders may still be sizeable (golf ball sized) and they are placed into a pulverizer and ground down so that everything is a uniform consistency, the cremains weigh between 5-7 pounds following the cremation. But everything else is burnt at anywhere from 1800-2100 degrees for approximately 3-4 hours. In regards to "getting the body ready" for cremation, the body is sometimes embalmed if there was a viewing, and if not, the body is usually bathed and placed in a clean hospital gown for the cremation.

Everything is turned to ash. Bones, skin, hair... everything.

One of the Faces Of Death movies actually has a video of a real cremation in the beginning. You can see exectly what happens.

The put the body in a coffin made of cardboard and burn it in an incredibly hot oven.

Everything is reduced to ashes. The only things that don't burn are metal implants---like if you broke your leg and had a plate inserted. That won't burn.

The body doesn't DO anything. You are dead.
