My hubby just recently joined the ARMY, and I received my medical paperwork today, but he has my social security card. In the papers that i received it says I need my card to get my medical. How is this possible when my hubby is in Georgia and I am in Michigan?! Please Help.

Hmmm...I know I needed my daughter's social security cards when they were kicked out of the DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System) during a recent move. I had to have the actual card to get them re-enrolled. But if your husband has your card he may have done your enrollment in some of the paperwork for boot camp. You may be able to check on that at your closest base's ID office or at their number 1-800-538-9552.

If you're not in the system then you need to take the paperwork he sent you and a copy of your SS card (either have your DH send it or get a replacement copy from the SS office) to the ID office at the nearest base. It doesn't matter if it's Army or not. They can add you to the DEERS system and issue your dependent's ID card.

You usually only show the ID card when you go for appointments at the military medical facilities.

you can get a duplicate card at any SS office with a birth certificate. They will make it while you wait.

Surely they can check it out on their computer. They have access to everything. If they insist on the card, have your husband send it to you, overnight express mail.
