Depending on the breed of puppies. They can start to eat puppy food at about 4 weeks old and offered water, but still be allowed to nurse from mom. By about 6 to 7 weeks old the should be pretty much weened off of mom and eating on their own and drinking water. Pups should stay on puppy food until at least 10 months old with clean water. From 10 months well into adult hood they can eat Adult dog food.

well I gave my puppy milk (storebought) until about 8 weeks. He was still VERY young when we got him and that was all that he ate. Then we gradually gave him wet food and milk on diff feeding times. Now he's about 12 weeks and is eating puppy food, the bigger kind is harder for him to chew since he's only about 1 1/2 lbs.

But he's a chihuahua and I really think it depends on your puppy's mass on when you should change eating habits.

Mom will slowly start weaning them off, not want to be with them in the whelping box so much, and then you can start adding food to their diet. The more she leaves them, the more you pick up the slack. We don't feed puppy food at all, once ours are weaned, and start to eat food, they eat adult food. So depending on what kind of breed, whether you want to put them on puppy, or straight to adult after they have gotten the hang of eating.

you don't give a puppy milk,, only the mother does.. the breeder will have had dry kibble in the pen with the pups starting around 5 weeks of age,, by about 8 weeks of age the pups should be fully eating the dry kibble,,, for big dogs,, one bag of puppy food is good,,, when it is gone,, switch to premium adult food,, ( you don't want rapid growth on dogs prone to hip dysplasia)
