I don't have a great life my parents are in dept and my family isn't united. We see families with worse situations have better relationships. Why is this? How can we fix it?

Happiness can be a habit.

I've worked hard to keep the habit of looking for the good in anything. It goes something like this: I had a pile of laundry to do today. I could moan about the work, sorting, loading, folding, putting away. Or I could be glad that my family has so many clothes, and a washer and dryer in the home to do them. Oh, and a home to hold those clothes.

If your family is in debt maybe the working together to get out will pull you closer together making you more united. And if it doesn't maybe you all have health which means you have some time to work things out.

Having a positive outlook about the big things and the little can make a whole lot of difference in your happiness level.

As the old an-age goes, "Is the glass half empty, or half full". It takes some time on how you look at life, and learn to appreciate all the goodness in your own life, rather than looking for and dwelling on all the negatives. It is hard to start doing, but try and find positive things in your life, and in your family. Be more complimentary to your family (and not in a derivative tone too), and start making a habit of doing loving things for them, and do it the whole time with a positive attitude. SMILE!!!! Everyone always likes a smile. As you are being more positive, it rubs off, and others will be more positive too. Also, do NOT dwell on the past, take each day for what it is, a fresh new day; don't let the past sap the freshness of the day away.
Your life is what you make it, so make it a happy one.

Honey, it is up to your parents to fix it. The only thing you can do is love and respect them in spite of their flaws. Besides, the grass always look greener on the other side. I have known families that looked happy and then you learn terrible secrets that they are keeping. Focus on being the best that you can be and focus on being happy yourself. Find what makes you happy and then share it. Spread the love with your family. Talk with your parents about doing things together - there are lots of free things that can be done. Do something special for them. Good luck.
