I'm not. Being treated and doing much better. So much better in fact, that I'm being slowly weaned off the medication. Yay!

Psychiatrists now know that depression is at least partly an organic condition involving the neurotransmitters in the brain. You wouldn't be ashamed if you had diabetes, would you? The important thing is that you get professional help. You don't have to feel this way.

People may tell you it's all in your head, but that's not true. See your doctor. He can assess the situation better than anyone.

If you are already taking medication and it's not helping, let your doctor know, and he can try another antidepressant or change the dosage. Good luck to you.

I am on Zoloft for depression. Although I didn't start taking it until after losing a baby at 21 weeks last Aug, I realized afterwords that I had been depressed for years. I have no problem letting people know that I take medication for my depression, especially people that have noticed a difference in my personality

Yes, I think that is one of the problems in getting help for it. It feels really weird to go to the doctor to discuss this. It is also very difficult when depressed to take the action required to get a medical appointment. I don't think that most people want to listen to you if you tell them you are depressed. All of it becomes rather self-defeating, but there is help out there

No! I have it, and I'm not ashamed at all. I'm learning to deal with it. When I have my bad downs I feel pretty pathetic but never ever ashamed. It's not my fault. You shouldn't feel like it is.
