Doctor of Osteopathy I prefer these docs over MDs they are more concerned with your whole self not just treating symptoms . They have specialties like MD and go through appropriate residencies if they are a shrink a primary doctor even a chiropractor. They belive in less of a drug approach and I feel listen to your and get to the bottom of things
an MD will say what are your symptoms where a DO will say How are you? get it?

Doctor of Osteopathy. The person with these initials went to an osteopathic medical college rather than a regular medical college. The practice emphasises the alignment and condition of the body (skeleton and muscles). In the past they practiced completely separately from doctors. Now, however, some osteopaths and physicians work conjointly, I think.

So there is a debate in the medical profession over which type of doctor is 'better'. Many will contend that an M.D. is a more prestigious degree than a D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy). However, don't let snobby people deter you. In my experience D.O's are great and definitely not any sort of lesser doctor.

DO stands for Doctor of Osteopathy. There are two types of medicine, allopathic and osteopathic. Both require 4 years of medical school after college, both require post graduate work. Both are licensed to practice all types of medicine.

D.O. means 'Doctor of Osteopathy' which is a medical degree similar to 'M.D.' Most people don't know what a DO is, but they can do everything an MD can ie: perform surgery, prescribe medicine.
