can you tell me step-by-step what to do? i'd love to teach it to play dead or wave or just play games with me. thanks!

First step is to build trust with him or her. Once your bird will easily climb onto your finger without being afraid you can begin to teach it other tricks. Until you build trust with the bird, it will not do anything but try to run away.
Easiest trick for a parkeet is to teach it to talk. You can start by listening to it chatter and try to imitate it. Once it thinks you are trying to communicate with it, it will start to mimic the sound you make. The more you repeat softly to the parakeet what you want it say, the faster it will learn.
I had a parakeet that would always fly onto my shoulder and get next to my ear and say "Buddy is a pretty boy" and "I love buddy" (that was his name) all the time.
It is good to start simple. Try teaching him to step up onto perches or toys. Most birds learn movement by stepping up onto something, they avoid stepping down. buy some action toys like a plastic ferris wheel or small car he can sit on. Once he starts learningyou can basically teach him anything you want. Parakeets are actually very smart that way.

First it has to trust you. After that when u can take ur bird out from the cage you can teach it anything you want. It will take a couple of weeks with determination. It will learn the trick.

i have three parakeets and what i do is if i want to teach them something i just repeat it over and over again!!! the easiest thing is to teach them to talk, if you have a boy it will be a lot easier cause they learn faster!!!

you may coach them to: talk play ineffective (might take slightly prepare) climb your arms like it rather is on a ladder turn upside-down on your finger sing imitate some sounds fly to you on command. sorry i dont know what else.
