As quite a few goth/rock/emo people have 'Nighmare before Xmas' characters tatooed on their bodies e.g. Billy Martin from Good Charlotte
But does Mr Burton get a cut? As technically the characters are his creation - so surely under his copyright??

Sorry if I offended anyone at the generalization! (First time I've asked a question!) But it was the only way I could explain the question - as 'alternative' music would be even more 'general'.
Anyway - you get what I mean - so..........
Interesting anwers - thanks people!

well technically these tattoos (as well as disney characters etc..) shouldn't be allowed, cause they breach copyright laws... so you're absolutely right, he should be getting royalties
but hey who really minds? i think they find it rather flattering (if they're well done of course)

Well if Disney doesn't get a cut for every Mickey, Minnie, and what ever else characters I don't think that Tim Burton would either... :)

lol--good question. I'm curious now, too :)

Though I think you're making an unfair generalization when saying only "goth/rock/emo people" have gotten these kinds of tattoos.

no!! unfortunately for him!! it'd be too hard to regulate and police!!

if people were doing t'shirts with the image on, or paintings that they were profiting from, that would result in a law suit though

he'd just find tattoos flattering, i think!

no he doesnt but he'd be perfectly withing his right to charge for use of copyright from the tattoo artists.

hilarious how "EMO" people think they're such unique and original people when they're all copykats adopting the same persona as a million other dysfunctional losers with the same "unique" and depressing tattoos, etc...pathetic

Don't give these people anymore ideas (emo kids, as well as the movie studios).
