Chlorine and salt water are both dreadful for long hair - particularly when combined with sun-bathing. My wife has very long hair and she puts it into a tight bun and uses a swim cap... there is really no alternative if you want to keep your hair long and healthy!! There are leave-in products which you can use to protect your hair from the sun and sea, but these are expensive, particularly for someone with very long hair.

Hi

I went swimming today and my hair is pretty long too. I try and put it all up on top in a twist bun type thing... but still parts of my hair end up getting wet no matter how hard i try to keep my head out the water.... The back gets wet when you swim or get splashed etc.

I dont think theres any way of not getting your hair wet aless you wear a swimming hat... but these dont tend to fit too well if you have long hair and also feel uncomfy and look silly!

I guess just try not to get it too wet as chlorine is not good for hair and then wash it afterwards is the only answer.

You can get protection sprays for hair to stop the chlorine damaging it and also shampoos that take the chlorine out the hair full afterwards...

X

if youre talking about competetive swimming, im guessing you wear swim caps all the time. they are very very damaging to your hair, no matter what kind. the latex and silicone ones keep alot of the chlorine out, but break your hair. all of my hair along the nape of my nack is about two inches long because i have to wear a swim cap at practice. the cloth caps let chlorine in which will damage your hair as well. if you do decide to wear a cap (or even if you dont) i would highly recommend putting conditioner in your hair before hand. and putting your hair up in a bun is always good :]

i have this same problem often
if you are in a hurry, just put it in a tight bun
but if you have the time and you really want it to be stable, then i normally braid my hair and then put it into a bun like you would usually do, this way, it doesn't fall out easily, and if it does you dont have to worry about your hair going everywhere. Just makey sure you use conditioner after swimming in clorinated water!!!

Put leave-in conditioner in there and wear it up or in a swim cap. A braid would probably work too.

A single braid down your back- or if you make 2 long pigtails pin them up in a circle to form a crown around top & back of your head/use boby pins and/or hair clips. it looks great, stays up as securely as a bun but the weight of wet hair is distributed more evenly over your head so it's more comfortable than a bun.

Its best to put in a tight bun...it will hold and you can swim without it being all over
