How did you feel? Were you exhausted? Did you feel like you could have run faster? Learn from your races. You can find out how fast you can run. Remember to run even pace through out the race. Do not go out too fast. You will get better as you learn to run the race. Everyone starts out a long way below what they can do. It takes time and you need to improve in small times, you can not expect to take a minute off your race next week. Aim for 7:00, that is a big improvement. You will learn pacing and strategies and get better.

Be sure to get enough sleep a day or two before, drink water through out the day.
As far as race strategy goes. Don't go out too hard, but make sure you dont slow down throughout the race. Most people fall asleep on the 3rd lap (4 lap race) and its key not to. Depending on how fast you are, start your kick at the begining of the 4th lap and dont let anything stop you.
Also, if you dont have running spikes, you might want to pick a pair of those up. They a lighter form of shoe with spikes on the bottom for traction. They will probably shave at least a good 5 seconds off your time.

dont think about time, think about position. 7 11 is not bad for your age, but by the end of the season u should hit mid 6s. good luck with the season.
