Its something new in her territory.
The motion of the water is interesting.
It's making that cool water noise. Cats like that.
Cats are a mystery. Could be any or all of the above, or none.

Cats are just weird and very curious. Sometimes the strangest things occupy them the most. One of my cats loves running water. He loves to watch me run the water in the tub. He will also drink from a running tap in the sink.
Sometimes, my cats watch me shower by sitting on the side of the tub. Cats are odd creatures.
Your cat may try to drink from the fountain. Some fountains have chlorine added to the water to keep the water clean. If you have fountain like this, keep your kitty away from it. She can look, but don't let her consume the water. Chances are she would smell the chlorine and not drink it anyway, but keep an eye on her just in case. Otherwise, let her have a sip or too. Water that is run through the fountain tends to taste better and cats often like this. You can always buy a cat water bowl that has a built in fountain too. That might keep her away from the decorative one.
Just be glad your kitty doesn't have expensive tastes. :-)

Your cat just may not be used to it. I have 3 different sources of water. Of my 10 cats, 4 use the bowl of water, 5 use the fountain and 1 (Ole Hairball Harry McDoughal) needs to have the bathroom sink. He will sit on the sink until I come in and turn it on. LOL. Give him time and don't force it. Does it make any noises? It might be the noise but at any rate don't worry about it. It's just the difference in cats.

She likes the running water. She will probably start drinking the water from it. When water is filtered like through that fountain it naturally gets cooler because it puts more oxygen in the water. So cats choose to drink from running water.

I think that when the water is moving it stays fresh longer. We had a fountain once. Our cat stopped using his water bowl, and would only drink from the fountain. It may also have to do with neat sound.

I have 2 fountains & 4 cats, they all love them! They only like to drink out of them now. I think it's because the water is circulating & it doesn't get all dusty & hairy on the top. Also I think they like them because the water makes the little shells & rocks & things move around & there is bubbles & everything too.

there's just something about running water that attracts the kitties. i used to have this little, table top fountain in the living room that my cats insisted on playing with at all times.

Depending on how long you have had the water fountain, she may just be trying to figure out what it is. It is a new object to her in her "domain" and she is not used to it being there. She will get used to it being there and return to normal soon enough.

Hee hee, how cute. She might drink from it, cats especially love running water. In fact you can buy cat water fountains, e.g. for a diabetic cat who needs to be encouraged to drink more - I thought this was what you meant at first!

cats are mesmerized by water, especially running water. she will probably just stare at it. but eventually she is going to start pawing. sometimes, i leave the sink in the bathroom running for my cat to go in there and play when i'm not at home.
