How can you lose your sense of smell. URGENT?

I started laughing while I was sallowing salt and vinegar chips and they went up my pharynx. Luckily I think got all of the chips out mostly. But I was wondering could I lose my sense of smell this way; and how can you lose your sense of smell?

My father lost his sense of smell through a brain injury...hit his head in a fall. Usually you dammage it if anything from snorting things that can dammage the nerves or obusing medications.


I doubt you will in the example you gave.
