Curry is a spice. Often foods with a lot of curry are simply referred to as chicken curry or whatever. In that case the curry dish usually does have protein.

Curry is a spice used mostly in East Indian foods. It is used in combination with other spices to create the colour and obvious aroma in foods. My mother made Chicken Curry and Ground Beef Curry regularily when I was growing up therefore I enjoy curries immensely although, to many people, it is an acquired taste.
