I sometimes think my psychotherapist knows more than my psychiatrist. I see my psychotherapist every week and psychiatrist three times a month.

Psychiatrists are MD's and therefore have the knowledge base for prescribing meds. Your psychotherapist should be working closely with your psychiatrist to insure that you are getting the best of both worlds.

No! We Have Way Too Many Medications Being Prescribed As It Stands In Todays Society!!!!

No. They don't have the training.

A psychotherapist with a Ph.D. is not necessarily an M.D. therefore no prescriptions.

No , too many people already handing out magic pills instead of teaching people to learn to handle life.
I suspect the actual number of people with brain damage that need lifetime pills is 10% of what is dispensed currently.
Mostly, If pills are taken for longer than a transition period . .
Not good . . . life time crutches , not good . . .

Maybe in theory, but they don't take pharmacology classes so technically they aren't qualified to get a DEA license to prescribe.

yes, because they are the ones who spend the most time with you...they know what you need
