I have the same problem. I have gotten to the point where in the summer/fall I wash my hair every day and the spring/winter I was my hair every other day. And if there are days in between where it just feels like it is needed, I go ahead and wash it. I do say that washing my hair more often usually makes my scalp dry and flaky.
PS~ I always use Pantene Pro V and that makes a difference! The dry flaky scalp comes any time that I don't use Pantene!

I agree with redheadsrock... it is better to cut down on how often you wash your hair - particularly as it gets longer. I have some experience of this because my wife has long thick hair. She now washes her hair once a week, unless there is some particular reason to wash it more often (a day at the beach, for instance). This reduces the wear and tear on your hair, which is really important as your hair gets longer. It also reduces the time you spend on your hair, so you can resist the temptatation to blow dry, which is also damaging. Finally, oiliness is natures natural conditioner - brushing distributes the oil down the length of the hair and oil production may well adjust to a new, less frequent hair washing regime.

My hair is thick and fine, and I also find that it becomes oily after not washing it for a day. I typically wash my hair everyday because I am so athletic. I don't have dandruff...never have. I have noticed that I shed more when I wash everyday though...

Most stylist recommend to wash hair every other day, because your hair loses essential hair oils that it needs. I wash my hair every other day just like you and sometimes it does get oily and gross, so what I do, is I pick it up in a pony tail or an up do, that way other people can't tell and you can actually work hair in an up do better when its not clean.

No, it won't cause dandruff. I have short hair and i sometimes wash my hair daily, then i put grease and leave in conditioner in it about every 3 to 4 days, my hair eats up grease anyway so it gets annoying.

I have the same problem with my hair. I asked about it and there are two things that you can do. I wash my hair everyday and you can use dandruff shampoo and when you get finished washing your hair, on your last rinse , rinse it with cold water and that will help your hair not to get dandruff.

You can't cause dandruff. I wash my hair daily since I hate greasy hair. Dandruff is a medical condition, nothing you do will "cause" it. Use a gentle shampoo/conditioner, deep condition once per week, and you'll be fine.

Hi
Most people dont need to wash their hair everyday.
Every other day should be fine. It shouldnt look too greasy however some people do suffer from this... espeically if you are in a greasy enviroment... like fast food places or around a lot of traffic a lot etc.
You could get a dry shampoo spray to use on the in between day. You just spray it in the hair and it helps to get find of grease etc so that you dont have to wash it everyday.
