Female cats make lots of weird meowing noises, often sounds like they're in pain. They also drip a little from their back ends, and can't stop waving their butts in the air, especially when you stroke them! Then they have kittens, and you have a whole lot of responsibility.
Male cats can roam far and wide until they get some. And their urine stinks something awful. Then they impregnate someone elses cat, and they have a whole lot of responsibility.
Please get him/her spayed/castrated! They can be in season from 4 months old, most often from 5 1/2 months.

When both of mine were on heat, you knew it! In fact, one neighbour actually called the RSPCA on me cos she told them I was torturing my cat (this neighbour didn't get along with any of the people in my complex) cos one was yeowling so much while I was at work (even though I purposely closed all my windows in the hope it wouldn't upset the neighbours - I had made an appt with the vet to get her spayed but that hadn't eventuated due to reasons beyond my control). When the RSCPA got hold of me by phone and I explained she was in heat, all they said was "ohhh, we understand now, don't worry about the complaint". If only this neighbour had contacted me to find out why.
Both of them drove me mad, yeowling like hussies all day and night cos they wanted a boyfriend :) They were also very affectionate, ie, they would roll and rub against me so much. The only way I found to alleviate the yeowling was to rub the kitties belly - that helped a bit, but not for long.
Once I got them spayed, they both stopped, thank goodness. It's extremely hard to sleep with a kitty yeowling all night and you trying to sleep cos you have to work the next day.

Female cats tend to yowl - very loudly and all the time. it'll make you want to pull out your own hair it's so annoying.
Male cats tend to mark their territory by spraying on furniture.
I wouldn't recommend letter either happen. for 130-150$ you can get them fixed and live hapily together.

They shouldn't be in heat. Anyone smarter than dirt has their animals spayed and neutered.
