dedicated to freedom/opportunity, since that seems to be the overwhelming reason people come here.
Or, leave it out entirely.
We are clearly not (nor have we ever been) one nation under god. This silliness is a by-product of the cold war McCarthy era, and should have never been added in the first place.

Here is my serious answer. The reason our nation as been like no other one is because we had a majority of people willing to acknowlege God. Do you think we won World War II because we were just so much smarter ? Not so...in fact we did so many silly mistakes, it was only God that protected us. Why....because we were willing to say one Nation under God....even when it wasn't "written" in....
and can you ignore how our nation has begun to change as it takes God out of everything it can.....we will just go further and further downhill....just as it is now doing. Take prayer out of the schools...and what do we have today? Better schools?
Take prayer out of the public square....take God out....and what do you have? A better world. Take a good look!
So if we have any sense at all...we won't change it!

One Nation Under greed~
I think THAT would be more accurate to our situation.
Wanting Self profit is the root of all evil~ Greed for more at the expense of any or all . To live richly on earth with the poorest of morals. What a fate, what a fate.... to find out in the end that to be poorer in monies ARE rewarded with TRUE RICHES. The riches acquired by GOOD DEED and GOOD VALUES, blessings for all who choose to not honor the greed motto~.

Oh, goodness, Deputy Fife's response nearly derailed me: "One nation under man, which was doomed from the time we first decided that God was not real, we wallow in our self pity now and wish that only we had acknowledged Him when there was still time, and did not try to hide the truth"
Heh. If we're so doomed, DEPUTY, then what's taking so long to destroy us? Couldn't God just blow - ppphhh, and we'd all be gone? Why play the heaven/hell game. Just what does "one word" mean to you anyway?
Sorry, Zero. One word? Wear.
"One Nation Under Wear"

I would remove the "Under God" phrase all together, and make it as it was before congress changed it during the 50's.

Can't it just be one nation. How can you truthfully say the pledge of allegiance if it is base on something you don't believe, or what if you believe in Buddha. The pledge should be changed to reflect the multiculturalism of the US these days.
Even though I am not American, I thought the pledge was to your country, not a God.
