Well i say, just go for it. Who cares. I mean i think you should appoligize and say that you were preoccupied with some things but you are ready to out with them. but since u dont know if they have a gilfriend, try talking to him first and just have a normal conversation. or ask other people. u can tell if he sounds interested. what's the worse that could happen? :) good luck!!!

find out if he has a g-friend and if not just try to hang out with him a lttle more and get to know him then see what that leads to..
