I want to bake a cake today, and but I don't have any confectionary sugar to make the frosting (and I can't get out to get any). Are the any frosting recipes using regular sugar or other ingredients?

There are several types of "boiled sugar" frosting out there. Swiss Meringue and Seven Minute frosting are 2 of the most used.
If you have bar chocolate and heavy cream you can make genauche. You can also make confectioners sugar by running it through a blender or food prosseser, if you add 1 tsp of cornstarch and 1/2 tsp of cream of tartar per cup of granulated sugar you will make powdered sugar or a good substiute

Seven-Minute Frosting

1 1/2 c Granulated sugar
1/3 c cold water
2 egg whites
2 tsp light corn syrup or 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp vanilla.

In a double boiler mix sugar, water, egg whites, corn syrup or cream of tartar and a dash of salt. Beat 30 sec on low speed. place over boiling water and cook 7 minutes beating constantly on high speed intil the frosting makes stiff peaks. Remove and add vanilla, beat 2-3 more munites.

Genauche

1 c heavy cream
1 c choped chocolate (not baking chocolate)

cook over meduim heat stiring constantly until it has thickened and looks like chocolate. Pour hot over cake, as it cools it will look like "magic shell" ice cream toping.

Yes. Some cooked frosting recipies don't require confectionary sugar. Check your cook book or look on line. www.recipies.com might have some. These frostings are a LITTLE more work, but not too bad. Enjoy the cake.

2 egg whites
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup water
2 teaspoons light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine all ingredients except vanilla in the top of a double boiler over boiling water. Beat with electric mixer for about 7 minutes, or until mixture will stand in stiff peaks. Beat in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

5 large egg whites (room temperature)
1 1/3 cups granulated sugar
1/3 cup water
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

In large, deep bowl, combine egg whites, sugar, water and cream of tartar. With hand-held electric mixer, beat mixture until foamy.

Place bowl over saucepan of simmering water, making sure that bottom of bowl does not touch water. Beat constantly at low speed until mixture reaches 160°F., about 7 minutes. Remove bowl from heat, add vanilla, and beat frosting at high speed until it holds stiff peaks, about 7 minutes.

Yes, you can use egg whites (beaten until they're stiff), add regular sugar and beat some more, add butter and vanilla flavoring.

It's really delicious but I'm sorry I don't have the exact measurements for each ingredient.

If you have heavy cream you can add a little beat of regular sugar or Vanilla extract , and make whipped cream.
