just to let the 2 guys above me know, what tha asker means is that NASCAR, as americas 2nd most popular TV sport, doesn't get the same respect as stick and ball sports from sportscasters and sportswriters. for example, on ESPNs 'pardon the interuption', 'around the horn', and 'the sports reporters', as well as the 'mike and mike' morning radio show, NASCAR is very, very rarely mentioned. why? who knows. maybe it's because NASCAR once was a nitch sport, and sportscasters are having a hard time dealing with the fact that it's become mainstream.

How can you say that motorsports don't get respect? For God's sake, there a SPEED channel on cable. You can find some sort of auto racing on cable nearly 24/7. Furthermore, "ball and stick" is pretty vague. Cue sports, like pool and snooker aren't in the same category as golf, baseball, or cricket. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

Well first of all baseball is a stick and ball sport and is the national pastime of america. As far as the one answer curious to the around the horn show.,,, It's a baseball term and a baseball show so why would they show nascar on it??? I mean come on guys racing and motorsports have 3 channels all to them self without and "Stick and Ball " stuff to interupt.

Nascar, which I hate, is just the most popular sport in the United States right now. How can you think motorsports do not get any respect? Rethink and evaluate your question.

Because "ball and stick sports" rely on the performance of the body as a machine rather than on an actual machine. All machines run equally (the driver obviously has skill) whereas every human is different.

Are you trying to say that pool is more popular than nascar? no way , thats just plain funny. Don't get me wrong , I wish it was , but i'm afraid it's not even close. As far as the national media goes when was the last time you heard them talking about pool on television or radio. My guess is you probably never have. Not on a national level. But they do give highlights and results from all of the nascar races on ESPN and the speed channel and in the newspapers and so on and so on.................!
