It could be from being overweight, or being in a particularly deep sleep.

Cats can snore, the same as humans do. It usually means they are in a very deep sleep and very comfortable.

one of my cats snores all the time really loudly. it's really funny. i just take it as meaning he's really in a deep sleep and happy and comfy :)
