Soccer really is only known as soccer here in the U.S. It's called football in the U.K. In Spanish, it is called fútbol.

The Royal Academy of Spanish accepts "futbol." However, you should know that there's an old word, "balompie" which is still in use.

It is never "soccer."

Pronounciation: For "futbol"
"PHOOT - bohl" (The "phoo" is exactly like the first syllable of "phooey")

"balompie" is "bah-lohm-PEE-EH (run the PEE & the EH together).
