My cat is about 10 months old and I've tried calling his name alot but for some reason he still wont come to me or even look at me. What should I do to make him come.

The basic answer is that you don't get your cat to respond to, "Hey, I'd like you to come here!"

You get your cat to respond to, "Hey, come here, I've got a treat for you!"

Make it so that your cat associates your call with something good to eat.

Call him, and give him a cat treat when he comes, or some tuna, or a little bit of milk (note that it should be a very little bit, as most cats are lactose intolerant). Note that the first time you do this, you should probably kneel down with the treat as you're calling, just so he knows that you're about to give him something.

A couple days later, do it again.

And never, ever use the call for something he won't like.

Note: for some reason, my cat seemed to instinctively respond to a call of "yum, yum, yum!" the first time I tried it.

Some cats are very independent and are not inclined to come when called unless offered an incentive. However, if you feed your cat canned food, pretty soon you will find that your cat comes at the sound of the can opener, or if dry food, at the sound of the dry food pouring into the dish. You could also try buying a package of treats and shaking it to get the cat to come to you, and if the cat comes feed it a treat. The first time, just feed the cat a treat so it knows what the treat is. Then go a distance away and shake the bag or can of treats and kitty will come for a treat. If your cat enjoys catnip and recognizes a bag of catnip, sometimes the sight of a bag of catnip will be enough to bring him running.
If you just got the cat, give him time to get used to you. Soon he will at least look at you when you call.

take this from a cat lover! Get a CONTAINER of cat treats. Go into the same room as him and go down on your nee's. Shake the container so it makes noise. The kitten will hear it and most likely come. Then make sure you give him/her a treat or next time she wont come for nothing. You can also add in by calling her name along with the shaking of the treats so she gets used to her/his name.

Cats are far to aloof to come when they are called. They only really come when called if they want something, like when you've just got home and call them, they'll probably come because they want to be fed. Often when you call my two, they will open their eyes, look at who called them, then go back to sleep without even moving. If I really want them to come I tap a spoon on a can or shake the box of dry food, dont bother calling there names though.

Ya, i had that same problem when i first got my cat. It just took some time for her to bond with me and feel safe around me. Sometimes when i want her to come, i get some catnip (she loves it) and she runs to me and eats it then after that shes somehow very affectionate. When she wants attention she will come, and sometimes (most of the time, lol) she wants to be alone and sleep.
give him time and he will come around. =)

Cats are not very affectionate animals and will only come to you if they need food.

So, carry cat snacks with you. Reward each time it comes to you with a small snack.
