The way I see it, there is no point to anything. Suppose you are good at something. You harness that skill and use it to make money. You live happily with that money. You grow old; you die. What have you accomplished? Maybe you were famous; maybe you gave yourself a good name. But what does what do? It is of no use to you once you are dead. And even when youre alive it doesnt do much good. It helps make life fun, or even easier. Well then, what good does that do? Whether life is easy or hard; good or bad; short or long; it serves no purpose. Im talking about life, not the afterlife (if there is even such a thing).

Youre born. You go to grade school to prepare for high school. You go to high school to prepare for college. You go to college to prepare for work.
You get a job; something you do endlessly for 30+ years and then you retire, you grow older, and you die. What has come of your life? Nothing.

Some people live for honor. Some live for freedom. Some die for these same reasons, among others. But it does nothing. There is no point to any of it.

Pain and suffering makes lives miserable. Oh well. That doesnt matter either. Soon theyll be dead and wont feel a thing. If you live a pain free life, its going to end the same way as a painful life.

Those people that live and die for principles live and die for nothing (religion).
It may mean something to them, but in the end, it does nothing for you. Those people were told when they were young and impressionable, that they need to live honestly, and respectfully, and believe in god, and dont sin because you want to get to heaven. You dont want to go hell.

How can we go to heaven or hell? Once we die, we decompose. We dont have souls or spirits that go to places. Where would those places be? Would they be reincarnated like L. Ron Hubbard of scientology states? Heaven and hell are what we make them. And even when we do, its pointless to do so. Because they do not exist. Unless hell is where you go when youre reincarnated into another hellish time where earth is at its worst. And then everyone calls God the Devil!

People go by what the bible says and by what is right by the word of god. What if the bible said Jesus came to Earth on a UFO? Everyone would believe it because it would be what the bible says. As illogical of an idea it is, its true. People would believe it, no matter what it said. As irrational as it seems now, we would believe it if that was what the bible originally said. Divine omniscience and human freedom.

There is no god. There is no devil. It is necessary to create them to keep order and sanity in our society. But what purpose does that order and sanity (if there is such a thing) serve? Suppose the world was order less and insane. It would end for each person the exact same way as it would if there was order and there was sanity. It would end in death. Either way, it ends the same without a point. With no purpose served.

On the note of sanity Suppose a man, well call him Fred, starts talking to someone that doesnt really exist. No one else can see him. Fred has no proof that the other person exists. So, we, as a society, classify him as crazy. Yet, people designate days to gather in masses to talk to a person for whom there is no proof of existence. The bible says god is real. But, again, thats what the bible says. If the bible said that god was a two headed, three legged, hermaphrodite, everyone would believe that. Only because the bible says it is so. Just because the bible says something is so, doesnt make it so.

Suppose there are a god, and a devil, and a heaven and a hell. What purpose would it serve to go to heaven: Why would it be bad to go to hell? Heaven serves no purpose, and it wouldnt be bad to go to hell. People would respond, You can enjoy everything that heaven has to offer, and experience all of the suffering that hell has to offer. For what? And, if there was a god, and there was a devil, they would probably be working together anyway. God send those who are sinful to hell. Just because god sends those people to hell, the devil is supposed to accept them? If god and the devil are such opposites, then the devil would reject gods rejects only because god doesnt want them either. The devil just wants to cause harm, pain, and suffering. And whats the point. What would he get out of it? Entertainment? Enjoyment? He supposedly doesnt experience those things. So, it would have to be a bad feeling. Hatred. Anger. Despair. Or wait, the devil is uncapable of feeling.

People say that because of the life I lead (pointless as it will seem in the end even though I may be rich and be the happiest scientist since Einsteins days), Im going to hell. I cant very well go to a place I dont believe in, can I? And, whats the point in believing any thing? None. Thats my point.Im making a point about how there is no point. Irony.

Principles and emotions were developed to make life easier to understand. What if the people who wrote the bible only did so because they understand things as I do? They wrote it and made up the stories to get people to keep on living? They understood. They found out that there is no point. So, they invented one to make people happy. But, it is pointless to be happy. All it does is disguise the reality, disguise the truth; that there is no point. People say they do things for religion or principles, because they are afraid, and cannot handle the truth. But whats the point in understanding the truth? Once again, for the principle of conquering their fear- that there actually is no point to life. But they arent conquering their fears; theyre rationalizing, trying to hide the truth. Trying to make it seem that they are doing the right thing, because, in their minds, they need to do the right thing. They must. That is what they have been brought up to believe- they should do the right thing. Suppose someone does the right thing. It doesnt accomplish anything. Suppose that person had done the wrong thing. Will their life end any differently? The style in which it ends may be different, but either way, it ends. They die. Nothing has been achieved.

People grow, and learn, and live on their own. But they do it for a reason. A reason that, in the end, has no point. It may have a point for that person, or other people, but, in the big picture, there is no point. Just like life. There is no point to life, and, thus, no importance. But I still love it!

If I had two friends, both of whom told me many things and upon checking, one was found to be totally honest, the other lied to me many times, I would tend to believe the one who proofed to be honest.

The Bible tells us that God can not lie. Jesus said He is the Truth and everything He claimed to be...he was and is. He said He would rise up out of the grave...and the Empty tomb proves HE does not lie.

This is the creed I have written on behalf of all us.
We believe in Marxfreudanddarwin
We believe everything is OK
as long as you don't hurt anyone,
to the best of your definition of hurt,
and to the best of your knowledge.
The evidence must be investigated
And you can prove anything with evidence.

We believe there's something in
horoscopes, UFO's and bent spoons;
Jesus was a good man
just like Buddha, Mohammed, and ourselves.
He was a good moral teacher
although we think His good morals were bad.

We believe that all religions are basically the same--
at least the one that we read was.
They all believe in love and goodness.
They only differ on matters of
creation, sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation.

We believe that after death comes the Nothing
Because when you ask the dead what happens they say nothing.
If death is not the end, if the dead have lied,
then it's compulsory heaven for all
excepting perhaps Hitler, Stalin, and Genghis Khan.

We believe in Masters and Johnson.
What's selected is average.
What's average is normal.
What's normal is good.

We believe in total disarmament.
We believe there are direct links between warfare and bloodshed.
Americans should beat their guns into tractors
and the Russians would be sure to follow.
We believe in sex before, during, and after marriage.
We believe in the therapy of sin.
We believe that adultery is fun.
We believe that sodomy is OK.
We believe that taboos are taboo.

We believe that everything is getting better
despite evidence to the contrary.
We believe that man is essentially good.
It's only his behavior that lets him down.
This is the fault of society.
Society is the fault of conditions.
Conditions are the fault of society.

We believe that each man must find the truth that is right for him.
Reality will adapt accordingly.
The universe will readjust.
History will alter.
We believe that there is no absolute truth
excepting the truth that there is no absolute truth.

We believe in the rejection of creeds,
and the flowering of individual thought

"Chance" a post-script

If chance be the Father of all flesh,
disaster is his rainbow in the sky,
and when you hear

State of Emergency!
Sniper Kills Ten!
Troops on Rampage!
Whites go Looting!
Bomb Blasts School!

It is but the sound of man worshiping his maker.

And so...life goes on...pointless...empty...meaningless. Because there can't be a God. There can't be! Right?

Your statements about Heaven, Hell, God, Satan, and life after death are uneducated and extremely biased, but welcome to the ultimate reality of athiesm. Eat drink and be merry...for tomorrow we die.

I can appreciate your theory of non-exsistence from your self proclaimed wealthy scientistic view, although you spelled sense wrong. Thank you to the first answerer for catching that also. Did you read the book of Ecclesiastes recently, because it sounds to me as though you are taking the very passages of this truth and putting your spin on them to gratify your own possible dissatisfaction of your own life; or possibly to only stir descension among those who are just coming to faith in Christ. If so that is your choice granted by the third article of the Bill of Rights, but you already knew that. In Ecclesiastes the second verse states your distorted view of life by saying as it is written Ecc.1:2; "Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless!" If you would like I can send you a copy of this transcript for you to read and then hopefully you will find that the final conclusion to this matter is Ecc.12:13,14 Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole [duty] of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. (taken from the NIV Holy Bible)

Ecclesiastes 12

9 Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs. 10 The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true.

11 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails—given by one Shepherd. 12 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.
Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.

13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

You didn't have to write a whole damn book to prove you are an idiot. You did that in your first sentience. What you accomplish is the happiness you find on Earth. Once you are dead it don't make a damn what you have done while living. There is no reward or punishment nothing. You had better do your best to fulfill your desires while you have life.

I'm surprise if you have all this in mind and you're close to the one who created you why you do not try to find him.God said if you make the first step to come to me i come to you running. The one who created you from nothing can bring you again from nothing,he is the one who knows the secrets ,and he created us for one propose, logical nothing come to life without destiny.ASK him do not ask people he can show you the way not people, many people talk and do nothing.I'm Muslim and i feel him beside me, when i'm sad or happy and he changed my sadness happyness,he gave me power and i'm not interested in life because i know my destiny.I'm preparing to meet him clean thats why Muslims make 5 time prayers a day.I do not make propaganda but i'll tell you i'm a medicine doctor and Kuran miracles made me 100% sure that Islam is truth and religion revealed by God.

Life is a journey to be enjoyed. If you look at it as a destination you miss the entire point. Why do you go on a vacation when you end up where you started?

You are a bit of a pessimist. Try not to worry about the point of life. You're stuck, so just enjoy it while you can. Take pleasures in the things you do enjoy (which obviously isn't your job.)
