I have recently became sick with the flu or some sinus type illness. The problem concerning me is there is blood in my mucus not my spit. My throat is really sore, abnormally sore even for strep throat. Its is almost like I have a scab or something in my throat and when it is torn it bleeds. Is this cause for great concern? It would reassure me to know if anyone else has experienced these symptoms.

I've had something similar. Really sore throat. Sinus pain. I'd try to hack crap out of my throat and out would come some really nasty stuff (dark yellow with blood clots). It sucks big time.

Likely just a sinus infection or something similar.

It has happend to me about 3 times. It takes me a good couple of weeks before it goes away.

P.S. I never went to a doctor cuz I don't have insurance... but I prolly should have.

May want to get it checked out since strep throat can cause heart problems later, even if it doesn't feel like normal strep. It could also be something more serious, blood in mucous is not good.

It can be cause for concern. It may be related to lung problems (TB for example) if not a severe irritation to the throat or bad infection. I could not urge you enough to go immediately to have it checked out...it could be something VERY contagious. Bleeding....never a good thing!

I would definitely go to the ER.

I was speaking with a friend yesterday about their son who had quickly developing symptoms - mucus, lesions and bleeding. Turns out his son had Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and I understand it is serious. I am no doctor, but it would be a good idea to get checked out by one.
