I don't think so. (I could be wrong tho) A hot oils should not be used once a week tho, it can give you major buildup on your hair, weighting it down mad making it look lifeless looking. I would go to a reputable salon instead of wasting your money and get a deep conditioning treatment. I will do the same thing as hot oil, and you get the added perk of having a nice scalp massage too

The only thing that hot oil will do that's bad for your hair is make it a little greasy if you do it too often.
Once a week is too much. About once a month is all you really need. It is meant to re-hydrate your hair and scalp because all the styling methods we use can leave it a bit dried out. Personally, I use pure olive oil, warmed in a pan on the stove, because you don't want it too hot. It won't do you any harm to use the store brand ones though.

If you mean you are using it as a treatment for dry hair, as far as I know it is good for the hair. I have had bleached hair for many years, and when I went through HELL pledge night to join a sorority the girls put molasses, salad oil, mayonnaise, corn flakes, etc. in my hair. After I washed it all out, it looked soft as silk!
