In most cases, I think it is what hasn't been taught/learned. Dreadlocks do have a kind of mangy look, in my opinion, but of course they aren't dirty. I don't think they are for me, but I've seen some people with dreads that look great on them.
People just judge on what they see and don't bother to learn anything beyond first impressions. It's a lack of interest or sheer laziness. Why find out for themselves when they can just believe the stereotype?

Yeah I hate that there are still some people who think of blacks as inferior. The white hippie guys are usually the ones that try to grow dreads but they don't know how, and they usually have really huge, matted, dirty and disgusting chunks of hair instead of actual dreads. I've seen it too amny times!

Your right, you can wash dreads. But sometimes I don't think people are necessarily stupid they just lack the knowledge and in that case it would be best for them to seek the knowledge.

I don't know, but I sure wish more people who have dreads would actually wash them! It's disgusting otherwise.

I think it's because the hair is all tangled up, they can't imagine how anyone would get it clean. And they take tangled for dirty. Like the guy above who says he wishes more people would wash them- THEY DO. It is SUPPOSED to look like that!

A bit of 'white guilt' have we? Is what you have said not also a steroetype of white ignorance and a lack of interest in understanding others?

It is probably because most people are ignorant and don't bother to research something... most people just go on heresay and rumors.

Firstly,You dont know anything of the process, because Dreads dont exist.Dreds do exist. You cant wash dreds because they fall out.So why even bother.I Mean seriously, stop trying to be a black person knowing about hair whn you dont, and go do your homework.
