i bought a toy place house for my kids off the local internet garage sale. when i arrived to pick it up it was taken apart, so i couldn't get a good look at it. when i got home and starting assembling it, i noticed that not only was in broken in many different places, but that it was disgustingly dirty. one of the shutters had been ripped of, the other had been chewed up by a dog. the play phones reciever was ripped off by the chord. there was a play fireplace with an image of a log fire that had been torn off the wall. the door was broken at the top and it hangs by a thread. the table was scratched up and had dirt caked in the scratches. the roof was torn and sagging in the middle. the darn thing was covered in mold too, all over. i pressure washed it with soap and it's still gross. the lady that sold it to me mentioned nothing of these defects. i'm not very happy, at all! what is the proper way to talk to her about this? i want my money back! any advice is appreciated! thank you!

It comes down to... caveat emptor... too bad so sad! When you buy used items you need to inspect them carefully before shelling out for them. If it was grossly misrepresented in the ad you may have some recourse through small claims court but it's probably not worth the effort.

Well there is nothing you can do legally depending on the cost of what you bought it for and if you have a reciept - you may be able to give it back and take her to small claims court but my guess is you didn't pay enough for it.

I would call her and tell you are unhappy with the purchase without getting upset with her on the phone -- ask if you can return it to her to get the money back -- she'll probably say no in that case I would make it public what she did and make sure that no one else gets screwed by her.

How was it advertised? In good, poor fair condition? What did you pay for it? If it was advertised in good condition and you paid a fair price for it I'd take it back and demand your money back but if you paid a low price the old saying goes You get what you pay for. We really need more info. But, you can take this as a lesson..

Read the terms and conditions of the Internet site where this person advertised and you read the ad. That should spell out any warranties that she has to provide for what she sells.

Good luck!

If you bought it offline, you are out of luck.
