Yes, it is possible, in some cases that weight lifting can stunt your growth. Researchers have shown there is a link between weight lifting & stunted growth. Lifting heavy weights could speed up the closing of growth plates before they had a chance to fully develop. By stopping the growth process prematurely, you stunt your growth.
It is a good idea to check with your doctor before starting any type of weight training or exercise program. A physician can evaluate you medically and determine what type of exercise program is good for you.
The doctor will probably suggest that when you start weight training you use relatively lightweights and do 2 or 3 sets of 15 reps. Emphasis should be on proper form and lifting for muscle endurance. Your weightlifting should also be supervised for safety reasons. Learning proper lifting techniques will reduce the likelihood of injury
Have you seen the olympic floor gymnasts and how they all seem to be short? Sure, ther is a correlation, so seek for porfessional advice before starting.

Yes. Resistance training can stunt your growth if it is started at an early age, anytime before the growth plates are hardened. This happens shortly after puberty, but puberty is at a different age and length of time for everyone. A good rule of thumb is to learn proper technique, lift high reps, low weight until at least the age of 15-16. After that your hormones should really be kicking in and the plates beginning to harden.

Yes it is true. When I grew 6`2 tall I started lifting heavy weights and my height finally settled at 6`4.

I think how tall you get is all in your genes, if anything weight lifting should help your body develop better.
