they are a great idea , there are so many kids that play in the street on bikes and skateboards. it stops the stoopid teenage rev heads from high speeds down our street and reduces the risk of the children getting hit by a car.

Speed bumps come in various configurations and can be permanent or temporary. The most effective speed bumps would the the tall narrow ones. However, they are also the most noisy for neighbors and annoying to drivers and thus likely to draw complaints all around.

To reduce such aggravation while still having an effect on traffic, you might want to consider a modest asphalt bump about two feet in width by four inches in height.

Yes, they do slow down traffic. If the neighborhood has kids playing, then they are definitely a good thing. Of course some people will speed regardless of any obstacle in place. Last year I witnessed a 4 year old girl that was hit by a van, She's OK now but it makes you think.

Those that "accidental lose their mufflers" by missing speed bumps can and should sue the city for the cost of repairs. If you have a speeding problem on a street, it needs to be better patrolled, not ruined with risers in the road which only damage suspension components.

speed bumps have helped stop people from speeding on our street. the only time it is noisier is when they dont see it and the bottom of their car goes tha-thunk!

We don't have speed bumbs we have large dips. They work most of the time to keep traffic decent. I don't know about house value we've had them since I bought the house. No extra noise.

yes it has slowed traffic for the people who know they are there (my street is very well traveled and the orange/yellow paint has long since faded) but i feel really bad for the few visitors who end up losing their mufflers doing 30 accidentally! lol
