So when I first bought my camcorder about 6 years ago it came with a program for computers. Well that was 6 years ago and I no longer have the disc, but want to be able to use it with the computer, I've tried hooking it up with the USB and the computer did not recognize it. I also tried hooking it up with the rcs on the front panel of the computer no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm assuming that I need to install something on the computer so that it recognizes the camcorder but have no idea where to look. The computer is a gateway gm5420 running vista home premium.

Try searching on Yahoo for sony usb drivers for whatever model mini dv camcorder you have.

Without the disc its going to be a little difficult, but look around and you may be able to find them.

You could also call Sony and see if you can get some help from them (granted I hate their phone machine - I wish MAX was dead).
