Because potty-training is all about having child control their bladder and while they're still learning it's better to put diapers on them overnight because they can't consciously control their actions when they are asleep. Besides, getting worked up if the child has wet the bed due to not having a diaper will have an adverse effect because the child will be upset and might decide they want to keep a diaper all of the time so they don't get shouted at by their mom and dad for making a mistake.

It totally depends on the child. When the time was right for my oldest daughter she spent only 2 days & nights in pull-ups and then wanted panties.
My 2nd daughter is doing a great job in pull-ups right now and, if she stays dry all day, she gets to wear her pull-up to bed. If not then I put a diaper on her which motivates her to stay dry during the day. She is very close to using panties...go little girl!
There are so many methods for potty training but not one method works for everyone (or there would only be one method used at all). You just really have to know your child to know what will work for them. I don't think there is anything really wrong w/putting a diaper on a potty-training child if it's right for them. If it is done as an easy way out then it won't be effective.
The way I see it, as long as they are well on their way to big kid underwear don't stress it. When you stress it then they will get stressed & training will just be that much harder for them and you.

Because children are typically trained to stay dry during the day quicker. After the child becomes successful with day time dryness the child does not want the feeling of wetness so they will get up and potty at night.

I agree, diapers, or pull ups (is what should be used). Little children don't always have the ability to know ahead of time (giving them enought time to wake up, get to bathroom, get pants down, get on toilet all while still groggy) that they need to go. Too many accidents specially at night will be a blow to their confidence, and may cause regression of day time potty training. Potty training should be done in steps, not all at once. It's like driving, you had to master forwards before backwards, right?

So the child won't wake up in the middle of the night, drenched. If the child is very young, he won't wake up in time to call for mommy or daddy. The first thing in the morning, the child can be put on the potty chair, then have his bottom cleaned, & sip back into training pants.

Because while they are in the middle of potty training, they are just covering their bases! I see nothing wrong with it, and once the children show they can make it through the night make it a big thing to get to wear "big kid underwear" to bed. Granted, it is something to save work for the parents....but it is all a step by step process.

We put diapers on our kids so that they do not wet the bed. Potting training is serious and putting pressure on a child to not wet his bed when he is not sure about his body functions is completely ridiculous!! You start putting regular underwear on them when they do not pee or poop in their pants for several weeks! You take small steps...then when the child passes that milestone...than you go up to the next level!!

Night-time diapers are standard practice in households with potty training kids. I have done it both as a mom and as a babysitter.

Would you really rather have to getup in the middle of the night to cleam urine from the mattress? - Change sheets, bath the child...all in the middle of the night? Trust me, no one is pleasant when that happens. You are teaching the child to hold their urine all night. With the night time trainers, they are feeling the wetness against their skin, but keeping everything clean. And if they do not have any accidents during the night, you reward them.
