Because of the new requirements and everyone applying for a passport, it is taking 10 to12 weeks.

Good Luck

The Passport Agency says they are processing passports in approximately 10 to 12 weeks. You should have started this a long time ago.

If your from Canada, then too long. It is so back logged to like 20,000 files being mailed to Canadian passport department per day and may take up to 6 weeks to who knows how long due to employees work hours is like 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. You can thank the USA new border law and the terrorist for creating it the problem in the first place. USA and Canada had the longest safest undefended border in the world, but now it is so backed up with so many vehicles. Anyhow, good luck on getting your passport.

Mexico isn't yet requiring passports for Canadians. Just make sure that you aren't stopping in the States and you can get through with the ID you've already got.

It will take 10-12 weeks unless you put a "rush" on it. That will cost additional money.

How Long Will it Take to Process a Passport Application?

Updated Processing Times

February-April is the busiest time of year for Passport Services, with Americans planning spring break and summer trips. The best advice is, “Apply Early!” Or even “now’” if you might be checking out deals on airfare or hotels outside the U.S.

If you are traveling or need your passport in order to get a visa within the next 10 days, please call us at the National Passport Information Center or use the link below to check the status of your application online.

If you have already applied but will not need your passport within the next two weeks:

Don't worry, please!!! There should be no need to contact us at this time. Our goal is to make sure that no one misses a trip. We have added staff and are working overtime across the country.

Checking the status of your application: You can check the status of your application online. Currently, it is taking up to 7 days for Expedited Applications and up to 3 weeks for Routine Applications to be tracked online. Please allow that much time before contacting us to check on your application.
If you apply And Choose

You will receive your passport within about
At a Passport Acceptance Facility*
or

** Normally Routine Service passports are received within 6 weeks. Currently, it is taking up to 10 weeks. If you are not traveling within the next 10 days, please check the status of your application online, keeping in mind that it is taking approximately 3 weeks for our system to start tracking your application. If you are traveling within the next 10 days, please call or email the National Passport Information Center.

***Normally, Expedite Service takes 2 weeks to receive your passport from the date you applied. Because of unusually high demand, it is now taking 3-4 weeks and possibly longer if you renewed by mail and did not mark “Expedite” on the mailing envelope. If you haven’t received your passport and are traveling within the next 10 days , please call or email the National Passport Information Center.

NOTE:

* THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR AN APPOINTMENT AT A PASSPORT AGENCY. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT PAY ANYONE OR ANY BUSINESS MAKING SUCH A CHARGE.
* Passport Agencies assist customers with urgent travel needs (generally if you are traveling within 2 weeks) and require proof of departure.
* Most Passport Agencies are open by appointment only and require proof of your travel date or need for foreign visas. See List of Regional Passport Agencies .
