• Tea Tree Oil placed on a cotton ball and dabbed liberally on the area where you suspect the sores are about to develop. People claim they keep the sore size to a minimum and limit scarring. Tea tree oil is amazing stuff. It is also a great home remedy for cold sores.

• Ice - Keep icing down the area where you feel the sores starting. Again, this is supposed to minimize the size of the sores and the strength of the outbreak.

• Apply a tea bag for five to ten minutes each hour at the start of the cold sores. The tannic acid in the tea has antiviral properties. This will prevent their further development.

• Press a warm tea bag on the cold sore for 20-30 minutes. Within five days the sores will disappear.

• Avoid acidic or salty foods.

• Foods high in arginine such as those containing chocolate, peanuts and other nuts, grains, peas, seeds, oatmeal and whole-wheat products should be reduced from the diet.

• Reducing your intake of coffee is an important part of your home remedy for cold sore.

• Taking B complex supplements with B12 vitamin and folic acid is helpful.

• Cold sores may last from 10-14 days. If the sores last longer than two weeks or occur frequently, it is advisable to see your doctor.

• Rub aloe juice or aloe gel on cold sores.

• Apply a cornstarch paste on the cold sore.

• Lemon balm extract may reduce cold sore symptoms and speed up the healing. Lemon balm is an excellent herbal home remedy for cold sore.

The first home remedy for cold sore spread is to apply ice to the cold sore for 5-10 minutes every hour. Another way to prevent its spread is to apply a wet and cold tea bag for the same time period. The tea has tannic acid which has an antiviral effect. A warm tea bag applied for 20-30 minutes several times a day should work to remove the cold sore in five days. Foods that aggravate cold sores and whose elimination will help as a home remedy for a cold sore are chocolate, peas, nuts, seeds, oatmeal and other whole wheat foods. These foods have a lot of arginine which aggravates the cold sore blister. Acidic foods, salty foods and coffee should be reduced to help get rid of a cold sore.

Cover it with a protective petroleum-based product. Covering it with petroleum jelly will speed healing and help protect it from secondary infection with bacteria.

Don't cover it with makeup. Unfortunately, attempting to camouflage a cold sore with makeup often aggravates the problem, as the chemicals in makeup can make the sore worse. And don't share your lipstick or makeup either.

Change your toothbrush. Get a new toothbrush after the blister has formed and again after the attack has cleared up. Toothbrushes can harbor the virus.

Reach for aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen. Cold sores can be quite painful. Over-the-counter painkillers can help. For a list of precautions to take when using over-the-counter analgesics, click here.

Avoid salty or acidic foods. Things like potato chips or citrus fruits can further irritate cold sores and add to the pain.

Okay, everything will be okay. First, get a bucket. Fill it to the top with ice water. Plunge your head into the bucket for 15-30 minutes every four hours. By Monday, your cold sore won't be any better but you won't care about it anymore.

I get them occasionly, but I read this once and have done it several times. fingernail polish remover. Dries up in about a day if it's really small. I apply with a q-tip. Might seems drastic, but it works for me.

Squeeze it now, i've never had one flared up. Squeeze it girl, dab a little alcohol on it. It's going to hurt but at least it won't be a big *** zit on your lip.
