....instead of using the dollar amount in whole?...example: 1.99..2.99..3.99 and so on..

That's smart marketing, something sounds cheaper that way. Just like on more expensive items it's $39.95 rather than $40, $199 rather than $200, etc, etc, etc.

it's all marketing gimmick, it is called psychological pricing, they know that u will hardly ask for change, u will probably give it out, and when you do that their is a feeling of accomplishment inside u because their is much happiness in giving than receiving, while some people will see the little difference as a bargain, especially when they buy many.

look at it this way:

which would you rather buy something that costs $.99 (not including tax), or something that costs $1.24 (including tax)?
simple but effectuve marketing ploys, and goes to show how cheap we all are.
