There was no "Alamo war". There was a stand-off or siege of the Alamo, which was an old mission in present-day San Antonio in which Texian "freedom fighters" took refuge. it started on February 13th 1836 and ended on March 6, 1836.
Mexican soldiers probably felt smugly superior in the knowledge that they vastly outnumbered the Texians, and no support showed up. They didn't feel that way for long, though...

Well you got the war answers.
The background is Mexico invited American settlers in to make the land productive. Some problems came about because the settlers wanted slavery, Mexico did not. The settlers wanted jury trial, Mexico did not, nor do most nations to day.
Santa Anna was all they say. Pompous and Incompetent. But he was trying to unify the territories relinquished by Spain.
As to Americas intent. In 1845 America annexed Texas which was part of another country.
In 1846 America created reason to invade Mexico and take massive amounts of land as compensation for the effort.
The odd bit is the Mexican wars provided training grounds for young Military Officers, mostly Academy Graduates, who became leaders of the American Civil War.

I think that the Mexican soldiers that were involved in the sacking of the Alamo probably thinking that they were defending part of their nation from a bunch of in-grateful immigrants that were threatening their country's integrity. They had all the legal right to destroy the insurgency. Of course Santa Anna was an idiot and allowed his army to be destroyed.

It took place at the Alamo Mission in San Antonio, Texas (then known as "San Antonio de Béxar") in February and March 1836. The 13-day siege started Tuesday, February 23 and ended on Sunday. Trust me I was there.
