A cat can get fleas many times, and they could get them once and have them for a year. It just really depends on the treatment method you use. Flea collars are worthless, as are many of the flea shampoos. The best way to get rid of them, is to get the proper drops from a vet and vaccum and possible spray your house, even then they are tough little buggers to get rid of. The can live dormant in cracks, and behind baseboards and anywhere else.

I love the first answerer of this question. He/she is SO right - flea collars do not work. The flea has to actually walk over the collar to die, so what's the point. As he/she said, get some nice drops from the vet, and spray for your hous, not the cheap crapola you find in pet shops - shampoos and powders are stressful for the animal, rarely work, and can be dangerous. Cats can get fleas at ANY time of the year, and once they're there they're there to stay unless you exterminate them using the right stuff,
So, everything the first answerer said, you need know no more!

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

Flea collars are NOT a good idea. This can cause thyroid problems in the future. Buy Revolution from the vet. This helps with heartworm, fleas, etc. You put it on them once a month.
