Okay. Pay attention. I am in 10th grade at a large public school, and here's what's going on.

Freak dancing developed over the past 10ish years, largely thanks to MTV and such. When it started getting rather risqué, school administrators and parents began to voice their concern. Things began to get out of hand in the past few years, with girls bending way over, and that sort of thing. These previously merely concerned adults became shocked, and responded in ways that could only mean that they didn't do their research properly. What they saw was that there were a small number of dancers that were doing things that were, even by most students standards, inappropriate for a high school dance. Administrators, with this in mind, began to cancel school dances, had parents talk to their kids, and in some extreme cases, completely eliminate all dances from a school.

Some students responded. They expressed their concern that, as it is their event, not the adults, they should have some say in what they are or are not allowed to do. Some of the cleverer ones made the argument that adults have been shocked by dancing styles in the past, such as elvis' hip gyrations in the 1960s. Furthermore, they made the claim that dancing styles such as the salsa were no less suggestive. The problem was that by the time students could make their voices heard, adults no longer wanted to listen, still so shocked by what they had seen and heard about.

Proper freak dancing is more or less standing fairly strait up. If these concerned adults realized that the majority of dancers don't cross the oh so very thin and fuzzy line between appropriate and inappropriate, I think their battle against freak dancing would die down.

As for whether people are scorned upon for freak dancing by his peers.. short answer: no. Long answer: hell no. Being able to loosen up and step out of your comfort zone is unquestionably admirable to any high schooler.

I hope this helps ;)

Grinding is fine by me, you don't have to be so close that you're inside the person. some people at my school are just ridiculous. if you don't want to freak dance you don't have to.

Freak dancing is not for me. I've never done it and I'm not all that inclined to.
As for your second question, I would hope not. Dance is a form of self-expression. If you express yourself by dancing in some other way then no one should say anything.
