We just got a wonderful std. poodle puppy 3 days ago and I've been calling around asking groomers about pricing. There are so many types of cuts for a poodle! We are not showing her, nor do we plan to. She is going to be a family pet only and we live in the N.Carolina and plan to go to the beach at least a few times a month so we want something that will be low maintenance and keep her cool. She is only 11 weeks old and currently is not clipped. I guess an additional question would be what is the best age to start getting them professionally groomed? Thanks :)

you need to get started being groomed now. she need to be taken short now so her coat can start growing out again. the coat will be to not be easy to groom if you leave it long now. if you are going to be at the beach and other places. a short kennel clip is what you need to keep her in. A puppy clip means no hair off the body just only the feet, face, belly and tail are done. ask you vet what groomer he or she might suggest to you. when you find one have them show you pictures of poodle clips. some vet also have groomer that work for them.

Plain, simple "puppy cut". It's cute, easy to maintain, and inexpensive. It's a cut that goes well all through adulthood, too.

Get the puppy in for a bath at least, get her used to the groomer's smells, noises, etc. Maybe just a quick demo cut to see how well she may tolerate the electric razor.

Ya simple cut. Cut the body and leave the pom poms on the head and tall. They also look cool with the front legs left long too. But you have to make sure you brush them, at least every other day. I brush my Schnauzer almost everyday. It just keeps the knots out, and he does n't hate it as much. I have been clipping him since 12 weeks.

^The first black dog hair cut.

Its basically the puppy cut and looks like a decent length. You could go shorter though if you wanted to. I think this hair cut is clean and cut.

I found this website on when to have your standard poodle clipped and groomed:

Hope that help and Congrats on your new puppy!
