Because the earth only has a certain amount of circular area. When you place a rock in water does the water level increase? No, the water simply rises, and the rock does not generate more water.
To put it simple, trees don't make the earth bigger, they just fill a designated amount of area.

Earth is basically a big rock with eons of dirt on most of it. If you wanted to get technical, every year the trees get a little taller increasing the 'size' by a bit, but rocks don't grow. Dirt still piles up ever so slowly. Look how dusty a house gets in a week and take that outside.

I believe the person asking the question means how come natural resources aren't expanding and the answer to that is people are consuming them faster then they even can be sustained let alone expanded. This results from poor and unsustainable resource management. If people used there common sense they would realize natural renewable resources must be managed so that they are expanded at a rate and in an amount that will meet future demands at the rate and in the amount the need for those resources increases.

Trees and animals live for only so long.
Also you have to keep in mind, in order for trees and animals to grow they have to absorb something else.
