Last week, I was browsing around in the Milton Keynes shopping centre when I stumbled upon a Novelty Item store with an inflatable penguin sitting in pride of place at the shop doorway.

Attached to the penguin was a large handwritten sign that said "Infaltable Penguin - £10 - Better than Sky TV"

I'm assuming that the store are well versed in retail laws which forbids false or misleading sales information on its products.

Since time was pressing on me, I never stopped to ask anyone inside the store to substantiate these claims of superiority over subscription entertainment, but it has been bugging me all week.

So please, if you can, tell me how an inflatable penguin can be "better than Sky TV".

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure the store is well versed in retail laws but this statement doesn't make any claims about the penguin's ability to receive digital telly, the channels it offers or the quality of the penguin's reception, does it?

Whether or not something is good is subjective. Some might think the TV is "better" whereas others might prefer the penguin.

Would you need to sit in front of the penguin watching mundane trash? Would the penguin subject you to an excessive number of commercial breaks? Would the penguin offer you far too many home shopping channels or awful quiz TV channels? No.

He would sit there quietly, obediently and lovingly.

Thus, I think the inflatable penguin is better by far.

There's only a one of payment for the penguin and it's king of like watching Animal Planet on sky, but then instead of just viewing the penguin you can see lots of other animals on sky instead. So the store is probaly wrong and just trying to get a cheap sale.

Let's see: one off price, no fixing it to the roof, no repeats, not lining Rupert Murdochs pockets, no subscription. There is no law banning blowing up inflatable penguins (yet), whereas blowing up Sky Studios is an act of terrorism (though understandable with all the no-brainer repeats). Yep, on the whole I'd say it beats Sky TV hands down.

Definitely the penguin because you will probably get your monies worth and won't be ripped off by it.

With no apologies to Sky.
