i've been noticing this guy recently. i see him everyday in the halls and we've made eye contact several times...but that's as far as it got. he and i have never even spoken to each other, so chances of us going to prom together are slim to none.
very few people know about this particular crush, and so when i was talking to a friend about prospective prom dates, she goes, "i think i'm going to ask _ to prom." she has no idea i've liked this kid for months. what should i do?

okay so most of you are saying i should back off because i don't even know this guy...so onto the next step - how to get to know him when
a) we don't talk
b) we don't hangout
c) we have completely different circles of friends.
**** this is hopeless.

Let her ask him and see what happens. Don't be stupid over some guy. You haven't even talked to the guy. To start drama with a friend of yours over a guy you haven't even talked to is absolutely dumb. Chalk this one up to taking one for the team. If he says no to her, then talk to her about it.

Oh boy! That is a difficult situation. I dont think it is your loss. Although you are not going to the prom with the guy you would like to go - I am so sorry about that - it sucks! You know what at least you now that if he knew you were going to the prom he would have asked you and not her. Do you nkow any other guy who does not have a date yet? Are you 100% sure you are even going the the prom? You can also show your confidence and be like "I dont need a stupid date to go to the prom... I am independent and I can go alone and still have a blast!" AND YOU CAN!!!!!

I agree with telling her how you feel, if you just ask him first, you may end up losing a friend because she may think your doing it because she wants to go with him or something.
If shes a good friend, she will believe you and understand. And if she really likes him and wants to go to the prom with him. Then I guess you decide what actions you want to take from there, whether it be asking him and risk losing a friend. Or just shrugging it off to not hurt your friends feelings. (obviously she must have a crush on him to, to want to ask him to the Prom).

It's a mistake to ask someone you don't know to a big event like the prom. It will be uncomfortable if he says yes. Get to know him first. Start a conversation about school, sports, music, etc. Then you can ask him. And tell your friend what you plan to do.

If she is your friend, you should talk to her and explain that you like him (just to get it out in the open.) Whatever happened to guys asking the girls? Is chivalry dead? Anyways, I remember when I was in high school I found out that my "kinda sorta friend" was going to ask this guy that I liked to a dance... So I asked him before she did. She was bummed but I had a great time. Sometimes, you just have to do what is best for yourself.

I think you should step up to the plate and tell your friend you like that guy. You should also ask the guy out. If you continue to hide in the shadows, you won't ever get anything out of life.

Simple: Let her ask him. He is not your boyfriend and you have not had the courage yourself to ask him, let alone let him know you like him. If she wants to ask, she'll ask. Nothing you can do about it unless you get enough balls to actually go up to him and say something and actually get to know the guy.

it may be hard to deal with but you cant be selfish about this. if he and her talk, then she has gotten farther than you and deserves to go with him. you are right though about your chances. You two dont even know the first thing about each other

well either ask him to prom or hlp ur friend ask him to prom. depends on how much ur friend means to u. if she didnt know that u liked him, then she kinda should have first crack at him.
